Robert M. “Bob” Kobs, 72, of Burlington, died Saturday, May 31, 2025, at his home.

Born on October 29, 1952, in Washington, Iowa, he was the son of Robert J. and Marcia Fulton Kobs. In July of 1972, he married Sherry Cable, of that union they had one daughter Elke. They later divorced. On Aug. 29, 1992, he married Rusty Anne Helmick, she survives.

Bob was a 1972 graduate of Burlington High School. He served in the United States Navy from 1972 to 1976. He worked for Burlington Northern Santa Fe and retired after 27 years. Bob then worked for Big River Resources for several years. In his free time, he enjoyed going out on his pontoon boat and fishing. Bob also enjoyed hunting, gardening, bird watching, tinkering around and working on do-it-yourself home projects. He was known for his delicious turkey and homemade egg noodles that he would serve up every Thanksgiving and the fresh from scratch Angel Food cake and cookies. Most of all Bob loved being with his family and his grandchildren brought him the most joy.

He is survived by his wife Rusty; four children: Elke Constantine of San Diego, California, Nicole (Brandon) Jarvis of Burlington, Jessica (Isaac) Tubbs of Austin, Texas, and Kacie Burger of Burlington; eight grandchildren: Zoe, Theo, Phoebe, Cameron (Cassie), Ethan, Lucas, Nic and Jason; one great granddaughter Ivy Rose; four sisters: Joann Forquer, Linda (Konrad) Schmidt, Kae (Tom) Calfee and Chris (John) Herman; one half-sister Dawn Kobs and four step siblings: Harold Miller, Bob Miller, Sue Miller Kline and Ann Miller. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; step mother Carol Kobs; two brothers Dave and Kenny Kobs and brother in-law Gary Forquer.

Per his wishes cremation has been entrusted and accorded to the care of Lunning Chapel.

Visitation will be held at 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, June 7, 2025, at Lunning Chapel. The Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard will render full military rites at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 7, 2025, at Lunning Chapel. Interment will be held in Burlington Memorial Park at a later date.
