Michael “Mike” Sanford,&nbsp;65, of West Point, Iowa, passed away at 1:05 a.m. Tuesday, May 6, 2025, at his home.&nbsp;

He was born on December 8, 1959, in Fort Madison, Iowa, the son of Darrell and Etta Lou (Wilcox) Sanford. On August 15, 1993, he married Judith Sue “Judy” Hagmeir in Fort Madison, Iowa. She preceded him in death July 30, 2017.

Survivors include his two step-sons: Matthew (Cheritie) Mahoney of Granger, Iowa and Kevin (Bailie) Mahoney of Fort Madison, Iowa; five step grandchildren: Ethan, Madeline, Gavyn, Kellen, and Cameron; one brother: Joe (Rosie) Sanford; three sisters: Sandy (Vino) Gonzales, Susie (Robert) Muerhoff, Lori Grens and longtime friend and caretaker: Elaine Johnson. Also surviving are eleven nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife: Judy; two brothers and one nephew.

Mike worked for Lee County Secondary Roads. He enjoyed mushroom hunting, fishing, music, painting and spending time with his family.

Per his wishes, his body has been entrusted to the crematory of Schmitz Funeral Home for cremation.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 24, 2025, at Joy Baptist Church in Fort Madison, Iowa with Reverend Earl Beal officiating.&nbsp;

A memorial has been established in his memory.

Schmitz Funeral Home of West Point is assisting the family with arrangements.&nbsp;
