Shirley Jean Corman, 87, of Sperry, died Wednesday, November 30, 2022, at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics in Iowa City.

Born May 20, 1935, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Glen L. and Mary E. Dowell Chesnut. On August 12, 1956, she married Warren Corman in West Hill Methodist Church. 

She graduated from Burlington High School.  

Shirley worked as a nurse for over 40 years. She worked for Burlington Medical Center, Mediapolis High School, and Dr. William Anderson at Old Mercy Hospital. 

She was a member of First Congregation Church. Shirley enjoyed cross-stitching and loved to play cards, games, and crosswords. She loved reading, learning about history as well as cooking, and baking. Every fall Shirley and her husband would travel to Branson, Missouri to watch the shows. They also attended SCC Blackhawk Basketball games. Most of all, Shirley loved her family; spending time with her grandchildren to shopping for her great-grandchildren. 

Survivors include her sweet old codger of 66 years, Warren; daughter, Lynette (Larry) Peterson of N.C.; daughter-in-law, Donita Corman; four grandchildren, Andrea, Eric, Christopher, and Kayla; three great-grandchildren; and brother, Gary (Mary) Chesnut.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her son, Keith Corman.

Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday, December 5, 2022, at Prugh Funeral Service, 3940 Division St.

The funeral service for Mrs. Corman will be 11 a.m. Monday, December 5, 2022, at Prugh Funeral Service, 3940 Division St., with Pastor Jim Francisco officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. A time of food and fellowship will be held in the community room at Prugh Funeral Service following the burial.

In Lieu of flowers, memorials have been established for First Congregational Church, Aspen Grove Cemetery, and Southeast Iowa Hospice.
