
Eugene J. Sperry, 70, of Burlington, died Sunday, July 24, 2022, at his home.
Born January 12, 1952, in Burlington, he was the son of Justin V. and Eloise Jane Blakeway Sperry. Gene moved to the family farm in Danville in 1954.
Gene graduated from Danville High School in 1971. On June 4, 1994, he married Rhonda R. Richardson Korf.
He began working at JI Case company in 1973. He retired from the painting department in 2004. Gene was also a commercial fisherman and a taxidermist.
Gene was a member of UAW Local 807, Ducks Unlimited, Pheasants Forever, and Danville Racing Association. He liked to go on Wisconsin trips. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, the National Hot Rod Association, sprint cars, and boating. He loved and knew the Mississippi River.
Survivors include his wife Rhonda of Burlington; daughter Lindsey Mike Simpson of Burlington, granddaughter Bailey (Will Gilbert) Skidmore of Burlington and a great grandbaby on the way; brother Dennis (Nancy) Sperry of Danville; numerous nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews; and always his sidekick, Hannah Jo.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents.
Per his wishes cremation has been accorded and entrusted to the care of Lunning Chapel. There will be no services at this time. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
