Susan Elizabeth Swank, 58, of West Burlington, died Thursday, April 6, 2023, at Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in West Burlington.
Born Jan. 18, 1965, in rural Keosauqua, on the family farm, she was the daughter of James and Sharon Weller Smith. She married Randall Swank on Aug. 31, 1989.
Susan worked for J.I. Case until her disability forced her to retire. Prior to that, she worked for Lamont Ltd.
She was a strong-willed woman who spoke her mind. She was a very outgoing and loving person. She was a friend to all; a “grandma” to all and queen of the neighborhood. She enjoyed playing bingo, going to the casino, spending time with her family, and spoiling her grandkids.
She is survived by her husband Randall Swank of West Burlington; five children, Dustin (Sandra) Miller of Revere, Mo., Amanda (David) Brombaugh of Burlington, Brandon Swank of West Burlington, Marcus Miller of Wyoming, and Angie Dietrick; eleven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; siblings, Ernest (Linda) Miller of Farmington, Cheryl Hollenbeck of Burlington, Rodney (Sandra) Miller of Jacksonville, North Carolina, Donald (Billie) Miller of West Burlington, Sandra Miller of West Burlington and Amy Miller of West Burlington; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Dennis Miller, sister Pamela Kay Canty, and nephew Sgt. John Miller.
Friends may call from 12 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 11 at Lunning Chapel. The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Cremation will be accorded following the visitation. A celebration of life will be held at a later date at the 40 & 8 Park in Burlington
