
Lester Carter, 86, of Burlington, died Thursday, Feb. 6, 2025, at the Klein Center in West Burlington. Born July 1, 1938, in Burlington, he was the son of Lester Guy and Marie Louise Wunderlich Carter. On Aug. 18, 2000, he married Karen Ruble in Burlington.
Lester graduated from Burlington High School class of 1957. He served his country in the Army National Guard.
Lester worked as a welder for J.I. Case for 34 years. He also taught night welding classes at SCC in West Burlington.
Lester was a member of the Eagles Club and was a proud UAW member. He enjoyed snow skiing, going to morning coffee with his friends, collecting coins, and welding. He loved his red Corvette, drag racing, working out at the YMCA, and going to dinner at the Hotel Nauvoo. His most enjoyable times were those spent with family and friends.
Survivors include his wife, Karen Carter of Burlington; one son, Bret (Angie) Carter of Arvada, CO; and three grandchildren, Shaelyn, Jake, and Trey Carter.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, James and Warren Carter; and one sister who died in infancy, Mary Carter.
Visitation will be Saturday, Feb. 15, 2025, with the family to receive friends from 9 to 10 a.m. at Prugh Funeral Service, 3940 Division Street.
The funeral service for Mr. Carter will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 15, 2025, at Prugh Funeral Service, 3940 Division Street with Reverend David J. Yonker and Reverend Brooke Robbins officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established for the Des Moines County Humane Society, Parkinson's Foundation, and Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice.
