Jackie C. “Jack” Henningson, 90, of West Burlington, died Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2024, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Born on July 9, 1934, near Pollock, Missouri, he was the son of Henning “Chick” and Ella (Wilson) Henningson. On December 29, 1961, in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, he married Ellen Smith, she survives.

Jack graduated from Milan High School in Milan, Missouri. He was a United States Army veteran. Jack was a lifelong member of West Burlington Christian Church. He also was a member of the West Burlington Lions Club. He worked for CB & Q Railroad and later for Champion Sparkplug where he retired from.

Jack was a man of strong faith and lived life for Christ. He adored being with his family and spending as much time as he could with his grandsons, Brandon and Nolan, especially attending their events. In his free time, he loved gardening, riding his motorcycle, riding around on his John Deere tractor, listening to country music, going to garage sales, going to flea markets (especially in Rutledge, Missouri), and going to the Dutchman’s Store in Cantril, Iowa. His favorite place to visit was Branson, Missouri. Jack also spent a lot of time going to local auctions and refurbishing the items he purchased to resell. He could fix anything! His favorite TV show was Hee Haw, and he loved the Grand Ole Opry. Jack always had a smile on his face and a funny joke or story to tell. If you asked him how he was doing, he would always say, “I’m finer than a frog’s hair”. Most of all Jack loved his wife Ellen and being with his family.

He is survived by his wife Ellen; two daughters: Jennifer (Tom) Palmer of North Liberty, Iowa and Kathryn (Matt) Brune of Fairfax, Iowa; two grandsons: Brandon and Nolan Brune; two step grandsons: Jamie (Brittany) Palmer and Shawn Palmer; nephew Tom Shovlain; niece Tina Norris and several Mulcahy cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister Joyce Shovlain.

The funeral service for Jack will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 21, 2024, at the West Burlington Christian Church, with Pastor Brian Pingel officiating. Military rites will be conducted by the Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 10 to 11 a.m., where the family will be meeting and greeting friends and family. Interment will be held in Prairie Grove Cemetery, then back to the West Burlington Christian Church for a dinner.

Jack’s favorite color was green, so his family is encouraging everyone to wear something green.

A memorial has been established in his memory for West Burlington Christian Church.
