
George Raymond Galvin, 89, of Burlington, passed away on Friday, February 13, 2026, at his home.
Born November 2, 1936, in Burlington, he was the son of Walter Elliot and Gertrude E. Rogosia Galvin. On December 26, 1960, he married Luana Claire Boyle, the love of his life, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Burlington.
He was a 1954 graduate of Burlington High School. He was a U.S. Army Veteran, serving from January 21, 1958, until December 14, 1959. After his time in the Army, George finished his Bachelor's degree from NE Missouri State University in 1962, followed by Master's and Ed.S. degrees from Western Illinois University.
George was a teacher and elementary school principal in the Burlington School District for 34 years. After retiring in 1996 from the school district, he was a part-time residential officer at the Burlington Halfway House for 10 years.
He was a member of Divine Mercy Parish. He loved to hunt and fish, especially with his family. He cherished his extended family vacations. His family brought him great joy and pride in their accomplishments.
Survivors include his two sons, Eric (Robin) Galvin of Des Moines, and Tom (Leah) Galvin of Burlington; one daughter, Jennifer (Travis) Beard of Pella; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sister, in law, Cindy Galvin, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Luana, who passed on May 31, 2022. He was also preceded by his parents, three brothers, Robert, James (Dorothy), and Walter (Jean), and one grandson, Ian George Galvin.
Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory.
Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 18, 2026 at Prugh Funeral Service, 3940 Division Street.
The memorial service for Mr. Galvin will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 18, 2026, at Prugh Funeral Service, 3940 Division Street. A time of food and fellowship will be held in the community room at Prugh Funeral Service following the service. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established for Burlington Education Foundation and Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice.
