Douglas “Doug” A. Kirkpatrick, 67, died Saturday, Dec. 23, 2023, at his home.

Born Aug. 6, 1954, in Burlington, he was the son of Dale Addison and Delpha Blint Kirkpatrick. He was a Wapello High School Graduate.

He married Machell Chapin on Dec. 23, 1978, and they later divorced. He then married Patricia Gail Payne on April 2, 2001, in Galesburg, Ill.

Doug worked for General Electric for 30 years until his retirement in 2009.

He was a black belt in Tae Kwon Do and taught for many years. He was an avid Harley Davidson rider and was an Iowa Hawkeyes, Chicago Bears, and St. Louis Cardinals fan. He loved spending time with his kids and grandkids in addition to his German Shepherds, Ringo, Zoey, Kaiser, and Lady.

He is survived by his wife Gail Kirkpatrick; his three children, Stacy (Chad) Reid, Nichole (Micah) Peterson and Spike Kirkpatrick all of Burlington; six grandchildren, Jaydon, Emylea, Alannah, Shyann, Kinsley and Macy; great-grandchildren, Lincoln and Charlotte and sister Diana (Walt) Moyle of Mount Pleasant.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister Deborah Newsom.

The funeral service for Doug will be held at 12 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 30 at Lunning Chapel. His son Spike Kirkpatrick will officiate. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the services.

Cremation will be accorded following the funeral service.

A memorial has been established for P.A.W.S. Animal Shelter in Fort Madison.
