
Darrell Dewayne Wymore, 69, of Burlington, died Monday, Sept. 1, 2025, at his home.
Born April 19, 1956, in New Bern, N.C., he was the son of Gilbert Carroll and Marline Eugenia McCoy Wymore. On December 20, 1980, he married Gerleen Lafferty in Burlington.
He attended Ottumwa High School. He later attended AMCO Training School in New Bern, NC where he received his mechanic certification.
He was a U.S. Army Veteran, serving from October 24, 1975 until November 26, 1975.
Darrell worked as a self employed mechanic and as a school custodian for most of his life. He also delivered newspapers, did roofing, and various factory work over the years.
Darrell was always very good with his hands. As a young man, he enjoyed woodworking with his grandpa. As he grew older, his talent transitioned to working on automobiles. He enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family and close friends. He loved to travel.
Survivors include his wife, Gerleen Wymore; one daughter, Samantha May (Jason) Nichols of Burlington; three grandchildren, Cierra Wymore, Jason Nichols Jr., and Briona Williams; mother, Marline Eugenia (Gilbert) Wymore of Eldridge, Mo.; one brother, Clayton Wymore; five sisters, Rebbeca (Butch) Dawson, Carol (John) Miller, Sherry (Jeff) Cheney, Regina (William) Poland, and Lorretta (Rodney) Compton; and several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory.
The celebration of life for Mr. Wymore will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 13, 2025, at Burlington First Assembly of God with Pastor Derek Gowen officiating.
