Duane Clarance Gerling

Duane Clarence Gerling, 87, of Burlington, went to be with his Lord and Savior Wednesday, November 12, 2025 at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington.

Born April 15, 1938, in Burlington, Iowa, he was the son of Clarence “Stepper” and Ruth Gerling. He was an Air Force veteran and served in Greenland.

He married Robin Eland on June 2, 1979, in Burlington.

He grew up attending First United Church of Christ and later began attending Burlington First Assembly of God.

Duane was a two-way radio technician and mastered in electronic applications. He was the manager at Aladdin’s Castle for 26 years until they closed and continued to work at Fun City. He was affectionately known as the “Radio Man”.

His passion was his farming, astronomy and music. He was a wonderful instrumentalist and he and his wife made a point to attend all area high school instrumental concerts.

He is survived by his wife Robin Gerling; son Doren Gerling; three brothers, Harold Gerling, Gerald Gerling and Loren Gerling, one sister Margie Hayden and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Georgia, Virginia, Norma, Lois, Richard, Keith and Sidney in infancy.

Memorial funeral services will be held at Burlington First Assembly of God at a later date.

According to his wishes, cremation has been entrusted to the care of Lunning Chapel.
