Peggy Ann Riherd, 87, formerly of Burlington, died Dec. 31, 2024, at her home in Ankeny. Born on July 2, 1937, in Burlington, she was the daughter of William and Anna Vollmer Carpenter. On Aug. 28, 1955, she married William M. Riherd. He preceded her in death on Feb. 7, 2001.
Peggy was a lifelong member of the Burlington Eagles Club and attended First Christian Church. She worked at The Town Café, Dodgeville Pub, Burlington Moose Lodge, Eagles and VFW managing the kitchen and cooking. She also worked with her daughter and son in-law at the D & G Concessions and enjoyed sitting in the back of the food truck and relaxing with an ice cream from Mr. Frosty. In her free time, she enjoyed puzzles, board games, playing cards and being out in her garden. Peggy also enjoyed watching soap operas: Guiding Light and As the World Turns. She was known for her delicious cooking that everyone loved, especially her family. Most of all Peggy loved nothing more than being with her family.
She is survived by her eight children: Debbie Snowden of Burlington, Dawn Riherd of Tucson, Ariz., Terry Riherd of Burlington, Cherie (Jackie Polson) Riherd of Houston, Texas, Quintin Riherd of Burlington, Tod (Gina) Riherd of Oakville, Teresa (Mike) McAninch of Ankeny, and Caprice (Pablo) Cordero of Burlington; twenty grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren with one more on the way; five siblings: William Carpenter of Burlington, Carolyn Lowthorp of Shenandoah, Linda Shepherd of Burlington, Darlene (Gene) Wilson of Burlington and Clyde (Susan) Carpenter of Burlington. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband William, daughter Cyd Riherd, sister Karen Helmick and son in-law Gene Snowden.
The funeral service for Peggy will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 9, 2025, at Lunning Chapel with Steve Parker officiating. A visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2025, at Lunning Chapel where the family will meet with friends. Burial will be held in Burlington Memorial Park.
