Charles Melvin Landstrom Jr., 95, of Burlington, died Friday, April 21, 2023, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington.

Born April 28, 1927, in Berwyn, Ill., he was the son of Charles Melvin and Caroline Schneider Landstrom. On Oct. 3, 1953, he married Martha Ann Nesius in Burlington. She died on June 18, 2019.

He was a 1949 graduate of Lyons Township High School. 

He was a U.S. Navy Veteran, serving during the World War II from March 20, 1945 until March 5, 1948.

Charles was a letter carrier for 31 years and retired in June of 1990.

He was a member of Zion United Church of Christ, Moose #579,  N.A.L.C. #222 and was a regular blood donor.  He loved being outdoors; from going on walks, fishing, gardening, to feeding and watching the birds.  He was a big baseball fan and enjoyed the Burlington Bees, St. Louis Cardinals, Jay Buckley Baseball Tours. Charles was a supporter of the local animal shelter, and adopted many wonderful cats over the years. 

Survivors include one son, Brian Charles (Sheri) Landstrom of Burlington; two daughters, Barbara Ann (Larry) Meth of Burlington, and Debra Sue (Kirk) Van Scoy of Burlington; six grandchildren, Todd, Mitch, Kelly, Karen, Courtney, and Briana; seven great-grandchildren, twins, Austin and Ethan, Isaiah, Olivia, Mason, Jase, Emma, Halley and Maren. 

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Donald Landstrom and sister, Carol Marie Grubb.

Visitation will be from noon until 7 p.m. with the family to receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 25, 2023 at Prugh Funeral Service, 3940 Division Street.

The funeral service for Mr. Landstrom will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 26, 2023,at Prugh Funeral Service, 3940 Division Street.  Full military honors will be rendered by the Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard.  Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. 

Memorials have been established for Des Moines County Humane Society and Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House.
