Sarah "Sally" Mitchell, 94, of Burlington, died Thursday, January 23, 2025, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington.
Born Oct. 27, 1930, in Sheatown, Pa., she was the daughter of Harold and Sarah Oplinger Parks. She married her husband, Kenneth Mitchell, on June 9, 1950, in Mt. Clemens, Mich.
After graduating high school in 1948, Sally served with the United States Air Force from 1948-1950. She worked at the National Research Bureau as an Office Manager for 25 years. She later worked as a book keeper for AMI Pipe and Supply in Keokuk for 12 years.
Sally enjoyed volunteering with the Burlington Care Center and at the Klein Center. She always tried to make a difference in the lives of the elderly whom she loved like an extended family. She liked to take walks to enjoy the fresh air. She spent a lot of time developing new activities for the Care Center to help keep things interesting for the residents. Sally also enjoyed baking bread and cookies for her family and friends. Her kindness and love will be missed by so many, but her memory will continue on through all who love her.
Sally's family include her son, Brian (Anne) Mitchell of Burlington, IA; grandchildren, Amanda (Brandon) Burgus, and Scott Mitchell; great-grandchildren, Parker Burgus and Brinley Burgus; sisters, Iona (the late Wendall) Patton of Burlington, IA, and Joyce Strauss of Pennsylvania; and several nieces and nephews.
Sadly, Sally was preceded in death by her husband, Ken; siblings, Robert Parks, Nina George, and Janet Stephanick; and parents, Harold and Sarah.
Cremation has been entrusted to Prugh Funeral Service.
