Fritz Merritt, 79, of Burlington, died Tuesday, April 11, 2023, in Burlington.

Born June 19, 1943, in Douglas, Ga., he was the son of Clayton Merritt and Myrtice Williams. In 1968, he married Pamela K. Ives in Oquawka, Ill. They later divorced.&nbsp;

Fritz worked as a mechanic and retired after many years from Sinclair Tractor outside of Mediapolis.

Survivors include son, Jeffrey (Sarah) Merritt of Goldsboro, N.C.; friend, Pamela K. Merritt of Burlington;&nbsp; step-sons, David (Rhonda) Wynn of Burlington, and William M. Wynn of Burlington; six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; and his siblings, Glen Merritt. Connie McNeese, Phylis Burk,&nbsp; Ladonna Foshee, and Louis Brown.

He was preceded in death by his parents, step-son Jimmy Wynn, brother Earl Merritt, and sister Jean.

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory.

Burial will be held in St. Mary's Cemetery at a later date.
