Thomas Orth, 80, of Burlington, died Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2023, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in West Burlington.

Born Jan. 25, 1943, in Burlington, he was the son of Albert J. and Marion Louise Hamilton Orth. On Nov. 25, 1961, he married Judith Good in St. John's Catholic Church. 

He was in the U.S. Army National Guard.

Tom worked as an autobody mechanic and was the owner and operator of Orth's Body Shop for many years. 
 
Tom loved spending time with his friends and family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He had an intense love for helping everyone around him. Tom spent many hours working at the St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry and was a member of Divine Mercy Parish. He was a member of the Cascade Boat Club, and also enjoyed feeding the critters such as the birds, squirrel, deer, or anything that came into the yard. The gears in Tom's mind were always turning and he could be found tinkering on something. 

Survivors include his wife, Judy Orth of Burlington; two sons, Clint (Jessica) Orth of Douds, and Clark (Lucinda) Orth of Eudora, Kan.; eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and one on the way; four brothers, Dan (Sue) Orth Tim (Bambi) Orth, Rick (Carrie) Orth and Tony (Carol Ann) Orth all of Burlington; one sister, Beth (Landis) Hinesley of Las Cruces, N.M.; three sisters-in-law, Sherry Orth, Ellen Orth, and Kathy Orth; one brother-in-law, Jack Phil Carspecken; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, Albert Jr., Henry, Bart, and Pete Orth, and one sister, Sharon Carspecken.

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory.

Visitation will be from noon until 7 p.m. with the family to receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 18, 2023, at Prugh Funeral Service, 3940 Division Street.

The graveside service for Mr. Orth will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2023, at Sacred Heart Cemetery.

A memorial has been established for St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry.
