Barbara M. Fritz, 92, of Burlington, died Sunday, Nov. 10, 2024, at Oakview Care and Rehabilitation Center in Burlington.
Born June 26, 1932, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Carl and Hazel Schwerin. She married Rolland Fritz on June 18, 1950, he preceded her in death on Sept. 20, 2011.
She was a member of Unity Lutheran Church and was very active with her church.
Barbara worked as a bartended for Dugout Lounge and the Paddlewheel. In addition, she worked in the snack bar for many years for Bowl-In Lanes and more recently for American Greetings Cards with ShopKo. After Rolland’s death, she began volunteering for Oakview Care Center calling bingo, helping with “fancy hands day” and made many friends there.
She was a fun-loving lady and was an excellent cook, she loved the holidays and enjoyed decorating and hosting. She enjoyed keeping tabs on the neighborhood and spending time with her grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
She is survived by her three children; Stephen (Arlys) Fritz, Jeffrey (Mac) Fritz and David (Pat) Fritz all of Burlington; four grandchildren, Jill (Kevin) Dunlop, Jeffrah (Jerimiah) Levins, Hillaurie (Travis) Bonar and Nathan (Nicole) Fritz; seven great grandchildren, Samuel Martin, Drake (Brooklyn Pardall) Fritz, Avery Levins, Ruthie Bonar, Rolland Bonar, Ava Fritz and Leopold Fritz and two great-great grandchildren, Oliver Martin and Finn Martin; one brother Donald Schwerin of Florida and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and two brothers, Carl Schwerin and Warren Schwerin.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 13 at Lunning Chapel. The family will receive friends for one hour before the service. Burial will be in Burlington Memorial Park Cemetery.
A memorial has been established for the Friends of Des Moines County 4-H.
