Samuel E. Smith Jr., 61, of Burlington, Iowa, died on Tuesday, July 30, 2024, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Home Health and Hospice in West Burlington.
Born on November 28, 1962, in Chicago, Ill., he was the son of Samuel and Ethal Lovelock Smith. On June 25, 1983, he married Shelia D. Hill.
Sam was a jack of all trades. After a long day of work, he enjoyed coming home to an ice-cold Bud Light or Pepsi and would sit down to listen to music, he especially loved the band KISS. Occasionally he would pick up an instrument and start playing. Sam was a master griller. He would grill all year round and have all his family over for huge BBQ parties. His pride and joy was his family.
He is survived by his wife Shelia; six children: Tommy (Lexi) Hill, Chris (Ashly) Hill, April (Shawn) Lieb, Susan Smith all of Burlington, Samantha (Joe) Tisor of Morning Sun, Iowa and Lukas (Ashlee) Kemp of Burlington; twenty-seven grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren and brother Frank (Janine) Smith of Las Vegas, Nevada. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings: Kenny Smith, Joan Smith and Michael Smith.
Per his wishes, cremation has been accorded and entrusted to the care of Lunning Chapel.
A private burial will be held in Aspen Grove Cemetery.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
