Joan V. White, 94, of Burlington, died Tuesday, August 5, 2025, at the RidgeView Assisted Living in Burlington.

Born October 25, 1930, in Oakville, she was the daughter of Sherman Allison and Alberta Baxter Cook. In 1955, she married James Eldon White, but later divorced in 1972.

She was a U.S. Air Force Veteran, serving during the Korean War.

Joan graduated from Burlington High School and then earned a Bachelor's Degree in Physical Education and Music from Monmouth College. 

She retired from the Burlington School District after many years of being a music teacher. Prior to that she ran the Macrame Mill in Burlington.

Joan’s passion for music was a central part of her life. She was an active member of Messiah Lutheran Church, where she shared her love of singing as part of the church choir. Her musical journey extended beyond the church, as she was also a member of the Bel Canto Chorale, the Southeast Iowa Symphony, and the Alumni of Monmouth College.

Survivors include three daughters, Kay (Jim) Barr of Cheyenne, Wyo., Gwen (Ron) Penton of Alamogordo, N.M., and Julia (Mike) Fox of Green Valley, A.Z., six grandchildren, Kristy, Janet, Jill, Kyle, Michael, and Robert; seven great-grandchildren, Justin, Mariah, T.J., Gregory, Lucas, Chase and Hunter.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Warren Cook and sister, Emilie Schultz.

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory.

There will be no formal services.
