Elsie Colleen McLaughlin, 89, of Burlington, died Friday, Feb. 3, 2023, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice in West Burlington.
Born Nov. 23, 1933, in Milan, Mo., she was the daughter of Jeffie Whitaker and Atta Ellen Miller Whitaker. On Sept. 19, 1953, she married Patrick Thomas McLaughlin in Burlington.
She was a secretary for Southeastern Community College and retired in 1995, after working there for 20 years.
Elsie was an avid reader and spent a lot of quality time shopping with her mother Atta. Elsie traveled to Europe, Mexico, the Caribbean, Alaska, and the Czech Republic during retirement. Elsie was most proud of her three sons and their families that include three daughters-in-law and 4 grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband of 69 years, Patrick Thomas McLaughlin; three sons, Patrick (Lori) McLaughlin of Dawn, Mo., Andrew (Yumiko Shiga) McLaughlin of Fort Myers, Fla., and Matthew (Melanie) McLaughlin of Lenexa, Kan.; four grandchildren, Lauryn McLaughlin of Shawnee, Kan., Drake McLaughlin of Boone, Madison McLaughlin of Lenexa, Kan., and Tengi Shiga of Arlington, Vir.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Jeff Whitaker.
Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Monday, February 6, 2023, at Prugh Funeral Service, 3940 Division St.
The funeral service for Mrs. McLaughlin will be 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 6, 2023, at Prugh Funeral Service, 3940 Division St. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery following the service.
A memorial has been established for Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice.
