Jeanette Marie Mutchler, 84, of Fort Madison, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, at the Klein Center in West Burlington.

She was born August 4, 1941, in Fort Madison. She was the daughter of George Bartlett and Mary Peacock. On August 21, 1957, she married Lorence Mutchler in Burlington. He preceded her in death on May 20, 2009.

Jeanette worked at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant and Avon. She left the ordnance plant to help take care of her grandkids. Jeanette then took up rebating and a rural paper route.

She spent her free time crafting, sewing, playing computer games, and playing pool. She enjoyed gardening, canning, and cooking. She raised chickens, geese, turkeys, and quail. She loved animals of all kinds, except for snakes!

Survivors include one son, Kenny Mutchler (Shirley Stewart) of Danville; one daughter, Carolyn (Craig) Calloway of Middletown; son-in-law, John Johnson of West Burlington; nine grandchildren, Melenie, Michelle, Matthew, Chad, Catherine, Christopher, Cynthia, Michael, and Amber; 26 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson.  

She was preceded in death by her parents, step-father, Joseph Peacock, husband, and daughter, Debbie Johnson.

The family will receive friends from 10 to 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 2, 2026, at Prugh Funeral Service, 3940 Division Street.

The funeral service for Jeanette will be 11 a.m. Monday, March 2, 2026, at Prugh Funeral Service, 3940 Division Street, with Pastor Jim McDowell officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery at a later date. 

A memorial has been established for the PAW Animal Shelter in Fort Madison.
