Paul Lester Beckman, 92, of West Burlington, died Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2024, at his home.

Born June 14, 1932, in Prairie Grove, he was the son of Lester and Esther Beckman. He attended Flint River School and was a 1950 graduate of Danville High School and a graduate of Wartburg College.

He served as a Corporal in the Army during the Korean Conflict.

He married Lois Taeger on June 10, 1956, at Prairie Grove Church, she passed away March 13, 2022.

Paul worked as an electrician for BNSF Railroad and was a life long farmer. He served for on the Prairie Grove Cemetery board and was the sexton of the cemetery for many years. He was a long-time member of Peace Lutheran Church.

He enjoyed fishing, golfing, square dancing, playing bingo and cards and bowled well into his 90’s. He was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan and never missed a Sunday NASCAR race. Above all, farming was his passion.

He is survived by his daughter, Teresa Neal of Woodward, Iowa; three grandchildren, Matt (Sabrina) Neal, Alison (Grant) Henry and Paul (Angela) Neal; eight great grandchildren, Blake Neal, Michael Neal, Eve Henry, Margot Henry, Griffin Henry, Kort Henry, Coy Henry and Gus Neal; four sisters, Phyllis Small, Lois Roelfs, Marilyn Brown and Lavonne Fulton.

He was preceded in death by his parents, beloved wife Lois, son-in-law Mike Neal and brothers-in-law Leonard Lane, Norman Roelfs and Ted Small.

The funeral service for Mr. Beckman will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, September 3 at Peace Lutheran Church, rural West Burlington. Pastor James Zuehls will officiate. Burial will be held in Prairie Grove Cemetery, rural West Burlington. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until the time of services on Tuesday.
