Bonnie Jean Murphy, 86, of Mediapolis, died Wednesday, October 26, 2022, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington surrounded by her family.
Born February 4, 1936, she was the daughter of Gerald Winder and Alberta Meda Gerling Courtney. On June 3, 1954, she married Jimmie Ray Murphy in Grandview.
Bonnie graduated from Wapello High School in 1954.
In her lifetime, Bonnie worked for Iowa Industries, Murphy's Service in Kingston, and the Mount Pleasant Walmart Distribution Center.
Bonnie was a member of Eastern Star and Daughters of the American Revolution. She loved to quilt and made over 115 quilts. She enjoyed threading necklaces, sewing, the piano, and music. Bonnie especially loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include husband of 68 years, Jimmie Ray Murphy of Mediapolis; two sons, Daniel Ray (Jill) of Kingston, and John Raymond (Molly) of Lakewood, Colo.; two daughters, Cynthia Kay (Chris) Swann of Oklahoma City, Okla. and Patricia Jayne (Bob) Lehnherr of Mediapolis; nine grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Jerry Courtney and Tom Courtney, both of Burlington, and Larry Courtney of Las Vegas, Nev.; two sisters, Joyce Stych of Muscatine and Judy Morgan of Tuscon, Ariz.; 37 nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Gerald and Alberta Courtney, she was preceded in death by one sister, Patricia Slater, and one brother, Michael Courtney.
Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory.
There will be no visitation or services.
A memorial has been established.
