Robert L. "Bob" Wright, 77, of Burlington, died Monday, Jan. 20, 2025, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington.
Born Sept. 1, 1947, in Ottumwa, he was the son of Robert George and Mary Ellen Wright. He was a proud veteran who served in the Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. He married Barbara Gilliland on Dec. 31, 1969.
Robert worked as a Correctional Officer for 25 years for the Fort Madison Penitentiary and Mt. Pleasant Correctional Facility.
Bowling was his passion and he enjoyed bowling most of his life. He was an avid coin collector and loved watching the St. Louis Cardinals, Green Bay Packers, Iowa Hawkeyes and WNBA Basketball.
He is survived by his wife Barbara Wright; three children, Michelle Clayton, Bobby S. Wright and Sara Wright; six grandchildren, Talisa Wright, Ebony Wright, Deondre Wright, Tachelle Wright, Essence Wright and Dorel Wright; 14 great grandchildren; siblings, Gary Wright, Sue Anderson and Davey Wright and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother Richard Wright.
Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 24 at Lunning Chapel where the family will receive friends.
The Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard will render military rights at 11 a.m.
Memorials have been established for the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House and the Disabled American Veterans.
