Axel Eric Mecum, 7 months, gained his wings Sunday, June 28, 2026.
Born November 6, 2025, in Fort Madison, Iowa, he was the son of Josh Mecum and Frances Moyers.
Axel was a happy, smiley, joyful little guy that brought perfect moments to his family. He loved to try to reach for things, playing with his brothers and cousins and giving them the best giggles. He most recently took his first steps recently in the ocean and had mastered holding his BA BA and calling for DA DA and MA MA.
He leaves behind all who loved him so very much. His mother and father Josh Mecum and Frances Moyers; his brothers, Jace Mecum, Bentley Smith and Mateo Smith; paternal grandmother, Theresa Mecum-Pattenaude; maternal grandparents, William Moyers and Sue Moyers (Joe Rodriquez); great grandmother Ramona Moyers; aunts and uncles, Brandi Moyers (Caden Gugeler), Bianca Moyers, Jacob Albright, John Mecum, Jennifer Mecum, Rosemary (Wayne) Chamblee; cousins, Ava Albright, Sophia Albright, Corvin Boal-Moyers, Hudson Gugeler, Carson Mecum, Neveah Young and Emily Mercer and many other aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather James Eric Mecum, and great grandparents, Jack Mecum, Sherry Mecum, Clifford Moyers, Ann Keever, John Keever Sr. and great aunt Nancy Gibson-Moyers.
A visitation will be held from 11:00 p.m. until 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 11 at Lunning Chapel where the family will receive friends. A funeral service will follow the visitation. Burial will be held in Bazel Cemetery, rural Oakville, Iowa.
A memorial has been established for the family.
