Wilma I. Sloan, 96, of Kirkwood, Ill., died Sunday, Jan. 16, 2022, at Oak Lane Nursing and Rehab in Stronghurst, Ill.
Wilma was born on March 29, 1925, near Nebo, Ill., the daughter of Henry Elisha and Daisy I. Zumwalt Guthrie. Wilma was raised in Nebo and Baylis, Ill., and graduated from Baylis three-year high school and Pittsfield High School in 1942.
She was married to Donald Sloan on Aug. 22, 1942, in Detroit, Ill. He preceded her in death April 25, 2009.
Wilma was a homemaker and a stay-at-home mom to her children. She sold Avon Products and was a Nutrilite-Amway representative for many years.
While living in Oakwood, Ill., Wilma was a member of the Christian Church where she taught Sunday School, was Sunday School Superintendent, sang in the Choir and was active in the Women's Fellowship. She also worked with the Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, and Illinois 4-H. She worked at Wiley Light Jewelry Store until retiring and moved to Kirkwood in 1988.
She was a member of the Biggsville United Presbyterian Church where she was a deacon and active in the Ladies Aide.
She is survived by two daughters, Nancy Hull of Biggsville, Ill., and Judy Carl of Ogden, Ill.; two sons, Gary Sloan of Magnolia, Texas, and Todd Sloan of South Barrington, Ill.; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and 13 step-great and great-great-grandchildren.
A funeral service for Wilma I. Sloan is planned on Saturday, Jan. 22 at 11 a.m. at the Biggsville Presbyterian Church in Biggsville, Ill. Her interment will follow at the Monmouth Cemetery. Her family plans visitation at the church for the hour
prior to the funeral service and will receive their friends from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Turnbull Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
A memorial fund has been established by her family.
