Donald A. Carpenter, 80, of Burlington, died Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2023 at Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in Fort Madison.

Born Feb. 9, 1943, in Ottumwa, he was the son of Donald and Irene Jones Carpenter Sr.

He graduated from Ottumwa High School and then served in the United States Navy for four years during the Vietnam War. On July 13, 1969, he married Connie L. Johnson in Monmouth, Ill..

Donald worked at I.A.A.P. for several years and then worked for the City of Burlington Streets Department, retiring in 2004.

He was a member of American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees trade union. He enjoyed gardening and yard work and riding his Harley. He liked to watch sports on T.V.

Survivors include his wife Connie of Burlington; sister Vickie Wilks of Ottumwa; two nieces and numerous in-laws.

He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.

A graveside service and inurnment will be at a later date.
