Gary Eugene Bauer, 87, of Burlington, died Thursday, March 19, 2026, in his home.

Born October 21, 1938, in Des Moines County, on his family farm, he was the son of Ludwig “Lewis” John and Alvena Miller Bauer.

Gary attended Brush College School and graduated from Burlington High School and Southeastern Community College.

He married Jeanette Hobbs on October 8, 1959.

Gary was the plant superintendent for Klein Manufacturing for 47 years. He was a member of St. Lukes United Church of Christ.

He was a member of the Civil Air Patrol, the photography club and was involved with 4H for many years. He loved raising chickens, minks and honeybees in his younger years and enjoyed going fishing with his brothers-in-law, whom of which were always more like brothers to him.

He is survived by his wife of over 67 years, Jeanette Bauer of Burlington; four children, James (Aimee) Bauer and Dawn (Greg) Trelstad, both of Burlington, and twins David (Debi) Bauer of Hazelhurst, Mississippi, and Carolyn (Kermit) Peterson of Wapello; four grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, son Bryan Bauer, grandson Brad Burkart, brother Harold Bauer and sisters Gladys Dahl and Melva Mae Eernisee.

The memorial funeral service for Gary will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, March 23rd at Lunning Chapel. The Rev. Randy Webster will officiate. Burial will follow at Aspen Grove Cemetery.

The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the funeral service on Monday.

A memorial has been established for HeartSong.

Cremation has been accorded and entrusted to the care of Lunning Chapel.
