David Thomas Burgin, 61, of Burlington, died Sunday, Oct. 6, 2024, at his home.
Born on June 27, 1963, in Burlington, he was the son of L. Thomas “Tom” and Dorothy Bromann Burgin. In 1991, in Iowa City, he married Erin Williams. They later divorced.
David graduated from Burlington High School in 1981 and then attended Iowa State University. When David was younger, he was a part of Boy Scouts of America. He was awarded the Order of the Arrow and was an Eagle Scout. He had a very special cat Gizmo that he just adored. David enjoyed the outdoors, camping, canoeing and building camp fires. He was always so proud of his smoked meats and cheeses he would make and share with his daughter.
He is survived by his mother Dorothy Burgin of Burlington; daughter Christina (Robert) Burgin-DeGroat of New London; grandson Robert DeGroat Jr.; sister Linda (Scott) Webb of Des Moines and three cousins: Jennifer Burgin, David Dal Burgin and Timothy Burgin.
He was preceded in death by his grandmother Elsa Burgin; father Tom and ex-wife Erin Williams.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2024, at Community of Christ Church with High Priest Dale Warner officiating.
Per his wishes cremation has been entrusted and accorded to the care of Lunning Chapel.
