Katherine Jean Metcalf, 98, of Burlington, died Sunday, Aug. 4, 2024, at her home.

Born on June 8, 1926, in Kirkwood, Ill., she was the daughter of Ray W. and Daisy Furr Holeman. On Dec. 26, 1947 in Monmouth, Ill., she married Charles Metcalf. He preceded her in death on Dec. 18, 1995.

Katherine was a member of Oakville Community Bible Church. For many years she watched children in her home while raising her own five. She and Chuck loved to take the children camping while they were young. They continued to go camping until Chuck passed away. Katherine loved crocheting, puzzles, reading and word search puzzles. Most of all she loved to go fishing especially with her husband. She had a heart to serve others and adored spending time with her family. Her family was her pride and joy.

She is survived by her five children: Karen (Jim) Cottrell, Steve (Linda) Metcalf, Debi (Dwain) Good, Linda Metcalf and Rick (Linda) Metcalf; fifteen grandchildren; forty great grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by one sister Virginia Henry.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and three brothers.

Visitation for Katherine will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2024, at Lunning Chapel, where the family will meet with friends.

The funeral service for Katherine will be held at 9 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 8, 2024, at Lunning Chapel with Pastor Steven Parker officiating. Burial will be held in Aspen Grove Cemetery.

A memorial has been established in her memory for Oakville Community Bible Church or Southeast Iowa Regional Home Health and Hospice.
