Frederick “Fred” Carter

Frederick “Fred” Carter, 83, of Burlington, died Friday, Oct. 8, 2021, at Bickford of Burlington.

Born April 6, 1938, in Burlington, he was the son of Harold and Marie Jacobs Carter. He married Carolyn Simmons June 15, 1957. She died May 23, 2017.

Fred served in the United States Air Force. He worked at G.E. in maintenance, retiring after 30 years.

He was very active in Sperry Methodist Church and was a member of the Masonic Lodge. He enjoyed photography, bow hunting, woodworking, listening to southern gospel music, and spending time with his grandchildren.

Survivors include two daughters, Susan (Jody) Shoemaker of West Burlington and Ester (Terry) Bloomer of Hudson, Wis.; one son, John (Jan) Carter of West Burlington; five grandchildren, and one great-grandson.

He was preceded in death by his wife and his brother, Carl Carter.

The funeral service for Mr. Carter will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 14 at Lunning Chapel. Military rites will be accorded by the Des Moines County Honor Guard. Pastor Bruce Smith will officiate. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. 

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, Oct. 13 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Lunning Chapel. Masonic Rites will follow at 7 p.m.

Memorials have been established for the Mediapolis Youth Groups and Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice.
