Samuel Allen Kurrle, 67, of Burlington, died Friday, Dec. 31, 2021, at his home.

Born April 15, 1954, in Triple Army Medical Center in Honolulu, Hawaii, he was the son of James E. and Leanne Corman Kurrle. He married Patricia "Patti" Westfall and together they had four children. They later divorced but continued to raise their children together.

He graduated from Burlington High School and attended Southeastern Community College from 1972-1974.

Sam worked as a union millwright and was sworn into the 410 Union in Fort Madison in 1975 and later transferred to 2158 Union in Burlington. He also worked in commercial fishing, catching blue crab in the Everglades. 

Survivors include his parents; two daughters, Amber Wulf and Lindsey Kurrle, both of Burlington; two sons, Heath Kurrle of West Burlington and Dustin Kurrle of Elkhart; seven grandchildren; and two sisters, Nancy Kurrle of Boone and Cindy Patterson of Burlington.

Visitation will be from noon until 3 p.m. with the family to receive friends on Sunday, Jan. 9 at Prugh-Thielen Funeral Home.

The funeral service for Mr. Kurrle will be 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 10 at Prugh-Thielen Funeral Home. Cremation will be entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory following the service.

A memorial has been established for outdoor youth activities.
