Burlington Cyclist Critically Injured After Truck Collision

A Burlington man riding a bicycle collided with a pick-up truck Saturday night (May 1) at Elm and South Main streets.

The accident occurred shortly before 6:48 p.m., according to the Iowa State Patrol. Reynaldo Lopez, 52, was riding a bicycle east on Elm Street and failed to obey the stop sign. He entered the Main Street intersection was struck by a 2021 Ford F150 pick-up truck driven by 61-year-old Paul Fairlie of Burlington. Fairlie was driving south on Main Street.

Lopez was initially taken to Greater River Medical Center in West Burlington by ambulance, then transported to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics by MedForce helicopter.

The accident is under investigation by the Iowa State Patrol.
