
Cheryl Ann Powell, 76, of Burlington, died Thursday, November 13, 2025, at her home. Born September 7, 1949, in Macomb, Illinois, she was the daughter of John Andre’ and Rita Lockwood Howell. She married Jerry Powell on April 2, 2016, at Bethany Lutheran Church.
Cheryl began her work career at the age of 17 at Woolworth’s luncheonette. Later she began working for Vista Bakery until her retirement and continued on with the Southeast Iowa Community Action.
She was a member of Divine Mercy Parish.
She was devoted to her family and served as the caregiver for her parents in their later years.
She enjoyed shopping, decorating for ALL holidays, socializing and fishing with her husband Jerry. She was an avid collector of bunnies and roosters and loved taking car rides to enjoy the scenery.
She will be greatly missed by her husband, Jerry Powell; step-children, Jerry Lee (Linda) Powell, James Powell, and Jessica (Allen Charles) Reeves; grandchildren and great-grandchildren; her siblings, Mary Ann Willbanks, John Howell, Barbara Bechtel, James (Tammy) Howell, Kathryn (Mike) McCannon, Michael Howell, and Julia (Dan) Wischmeier; Godchildren, Maggie O’Hulligan, Jordan Howell and Bradley Howell and several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Patricia Sutty, Theresa Mack, and Rita Jo Ann Schoof, nephew Ryan James Howell, niece Jennifer Howell, brothers-in-law Ron Bechtel, Hoss Sutty, Gene Willbanks, Sandra Howell, and stepdaughter Dena Stanley.
A Christian Wake will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, November 16 at Lunning Chapel. The family will receive friends following the service until 4:00 p.m.
The Mass of Christian Burial for Cheryl will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, November 17 at SS Mary & Patrick Catholic Church of Divine Mercy Parish in West Burlington. The Rev. Father Jacob Greiner will be the celebrant. Burial will be in St. Mary Catholic Cemetery in West Burlington.
A memorial has been established for Divine Mercy Parish.
