
Shirley Ballinger, 75, of Burlington, died Sunday, May 22, 2022, at the
University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.
Born December 31, 1946, in Burlington, she was the daughter of
Oliver and Margaret Long Bixby. She married Leslie P. Ballinger on
April 2, 1966, in Burlington. He died January 24, 2018.
Shirley worked for Ace Florist and Gifts until they closed, and then
helped in the food services department at the Burlington school systems, and Frericks Imports.
She was a member of First Christian Church ~ Disciples of Christ.
She loved to take rides in the street rod with Leslie and attend car
shows and Old Threshers. She enjoyed gardening, tending to her flowers
and time spent with her family and friends. She was very active with
her church, faithfully attending bible studies and was a member of the
Order of the Eastern Star.
Survivors include her two daughters: Holly (Jason) Seager of
Burlington and Amie (Rodney) McIntyre of Stronghurst, Ill.; and four
grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Leslie.
The memorial funeral service for Shirley will be 11:00 a.m. Friday,
May 27, 2022, at First Christian Church ~ Disciples of Christ. The family
will receive friends for one hour prior to the services.
A private family inurnment will be held at Greenwood Cemetery, West Burlington, Iowa.
Memorials have been established for First Christian Church ~
Disciples of Christ and the University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s
Hospital in Iowa City.

According to her wishes, cremation has been entrusted to the care of Lunning Chapel.
