Barbara Lee Slater Maus, 95, died Jan. 17, 2022. She was born June 22, 1926, in Omaha, Neb., the daughter of Dwight Edward and May Smith Slater.
She married James Harold "Jimmy" Maus on Oct. 12, 1946; he died April 25, 2012. Together they raised five children: Bob, Peggy, Jackie, Sally, and Jerry. Barbara is also survived by her sister, Sylvia Raney; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Barbara graduated from Central High School in Omaha, attended college at University of Nebraska-Omaha, and worked at her parent’s business, Slater Butter Company. After marriage, she spent her energies caring for her family and participating in Sweet Adelines. Upon moving with her family to Burlington in 1960, Barbara began working in a pathology lab, eventually rising to the position of office manager. Barb and Jim then moved to Des Moines, where she provided office support to an ophthalmology office.
Per her wishes, cremation has been accorded and entrusted to Lunning Chapel. There will be no services.
