Richard Franklin Wasson, 73, died Friday, Aug. 11, 2023, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington.

Born Aug. 9, 1950, in Burlington, he was the son of John Robert and Betsy Ross Turnbough Wasson. 

He was a graduate of West Burlington High School.  

He was a U.S. Army Veteran, serving during the Vietnam War.

Buddy worked for Burlington Northern Railroad in the West Burlington Shops. He also worked for Excide for many years. 

Buddy was extremely artistic. He enjoyed painting and was an excellent wood carver. He also enjoyed spending time outdoors; hunting, mushroom hunting or working on his guns. 

Survivors include his wife, Donna Wasson of West Point; three children, Amanda Parker of West Burlington, Holly Wasson of Tenn., and Jon Wasson of Ken.; one grandchild; two sisters, Noreen "Rennie" Wasson of Burlington, and Lucretia "Lou" (Donald) Broeg of West Burlington; sister-in-law, Sandy Wasson of Burlington; one niece and three nephews and close friend, Deb Olsen of Burlington.

He is preceded in death by his parents, son, James Wasson, sister, Nancy Wasson and brothers, John "Bo" Wasson Jr. and Stephen Wasson.

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory.

There will be no visitation or services.

A memorial has been established for Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House.
