
Glenna Mehaffy, 91, of Burlington, died Friday, June 17, 2022, at her daughters’ home.
Born June 10, 1931, in Burlington, Iowa, she was the daughter of Fred E. and Nellie F. (Purcell) Rowe. She married Lewis Mehaffy on June 24, 1950, in Burlington. He died May 14, 2008.
Glenna was an inspector for Champion Spark Plug for over 15 years. She was a member of the UAW Retirees and served as secretary for 13 years. She was an active Democrat and worked for the Gephardt the Democratic nomination for President in 1988 and 2004.
Glenna was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved drawing, painting, making cards, writing letters, bird watching and feeding birds, music, gardening, canning, reading books. She loved tending to her flower garden, kayaking, traveling, history, cooking, baking and her dog’s LaKoda and Pepper.
She was known for her hospitality, HUGS, and her famous apple pies, among other desserts. She loved all holidays and decorations. To the fullest.
Glenna was a friend to ALL she met and was remembered saying “PEACE”, while holding up “peace” signs. Most recently she would say in a loud voice I AM WOMAN! HEAR ME ROAR! with her fist in the air.
Survivors include her four children; Debbie (Ben) Buechel of New London, Dennis (Paula) Mehaffy of Burlington, Diane (Dan) Buechel of Danville and Kathleen (Duane) Smith of Sperry; nine grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; two sisters Rosemary (Henry) Luchner of Enterprise, Alabama and Sharon Green of Sandy, Utah.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and one son Garry Mehaffy.
There will be no formal funeral service for Mrs. Mehaffy. According to her wishes, cremation has been accorded and entrusted to the care of Lunning Chapel. Inurnment will be held at a later date in Long Creek Cemetery, rural Danville.
