Dennis Charles Gerst, 79, of Mediapolis, died due to complications of Melanoma, Sunday, March 26, 2023.
Born April 7, 1943, in Burlington, he was the son of Henry and Eva Schweitzer Gerst. He married Ann Behne on Feb. 19, 1966, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Burlington.
Dennis farmed the family farm his entire life. His passion was farming, being outdoors, and watching the changing seasons.
He loved sports, he was an avid Iowa Hawkeyes and Chicago Cubs fan. He enjoyed attending his children’s and grandchildren’s activities and visiting with people, especially strangers.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Ann Gerst of Mediapolis; three children, Russell Dennis (Bonnie) Gerst of Cedar Rapids, Charles Paul (Cindy) Gerst of Urbandale, and Melissa Ann (Ezra) Douglas of Burlington; six grandchildren, Zachary, Hank, Gregory, Tomina, Eva, and Jordan.
He was preceded in death by his parents and five brothers and sisters.
A private family graveside service and interment will be held on his birthday, Friday, April 7 at Sacred Heart Cemetery. The Rev. Father James Flattery will officiate.
