Vickie Hightower , 68, of Burlington, died Sunday, June 11, 2023, at the New London Nursing and Rehab in New London.

Born April 29, 1955, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Daniel Gene and Evelyn Mae Nichols Whalen. On Dec. 29, 1973 she married Charles James Hightower Sr. in Burlington, they later divorced. He died June 8, 2015.

She was a 1973 graduate of Burlington High School. She later received a degree in Medical Coding.

Vickie worked for Winegard, Antenna Craft, and Great River Medical Center.

Vickie had strong belief in Salvation. She loved it when her family was all able to get together. She enjoyed shopping, bonfires, and spending time with her grandkids, especially when they stayed over at her house. She always had a cold Coke and a bag of Hershey’s Nuggets nearby. She will be remembered as outspoken, but a kind and good hearted person.

Survivors include her sons, Charles J. (Lisa Kreft) Hightower, Jr. of Yarmouth, and Samuel E. (Stephanie) Hightower of Danville; daughters, Jennifer (Steve) Jarvis of Fort Madison, and Ellie Strawhacker of Burlington; 11 grandchildren, Natalie (Ethan) McGann, Charles Hightower, III, Daniel Hightower, Jebidiah Hightower, Katherine Hightower, Jacob Jarvis, Brandon Jarvis, Sydney Jarvis, Johnathon Strawhacker, Christopher Strawhacker, and  William Strawhacker.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Charles James Hightower Sr., one grandson, Matthew Alexander Hightower, infant sister, Helen Marie Whalen, and one brother, James Whalen.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. with the family to receive friends Thursday, June 15, 2023, at Prugh Funeral Service, 3940 Division Street.

The funeral service for Mrs. Hightower will be 10 a.m., Friday, June 16, 2023 at Prugh Funeral Service. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery.  A time of food and fellowship will be held in the community room at Prugh Funeral Service following the burial.

A memorial has been established.
