Ada Lorene Gillis, 92, of Burlington, died Thursday, April 6, 2023, at her home.
Born Dec. 5, 1930, in New Boston, Ill., she was the daughter of Estel and Mary Emily Cooley Garrett. On Aug. 13, 1949, she married Cecil Jr. Gillis in Burlington. He died in 1983.
She graduated from Dallas City High School.
Ada worked in food service for the Burlington Schools.
Ada liked playing on the slot machines and watching the game show network. She loved the Cubs and got to see them win the Pennant. She especially loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include two daughters, Toni L. Johnson and Lori A. (Tom) Buckman of Burlington; two granddaughters, Kali C. Knoll of Cedar Rapids and Mandy R. (J.R.) Herrick of Winfield; three grandsons, Tony C. (Tresha) Johnson of Coralville, Tyler P. (Hilary) Johnson of Fort Madison, and Zachary T. Knoll of Cedar Rapids; four siblings, Diane E. (Warren) Wade of Weeping Waters, Neb., Donald E. Garrett of Monmouth, Ill., Madeline C. Link of La Harpe, Ill., and Frederick L. Garrett of Donellson; nine great-granddaughters; five great-grandsons; many nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, grandson, Trent G. Johnson, and four sisters, Maxine Smith, Bertha Bender, Orpha Van Skike, and Mary Reed.
Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory.
A private family Graveside Service will be held at Carman Cemetery.
