Dale Robert Eschliman, 96 years old, of Burlington, died at Southeast Regional Medical Center in West Burlington, Iowa on Saturday, Feb. 22, 2025. Most recently he had been a resident at the Klein Center in West Burlington.
Dale was born on Dec. 15, 1928, on the farmstead just outside the Community of Hordville, Nebraska. The eldest son of Leo Jacob Eschliman and Norma Chloe Rinesmith Eschliman.
On March 8, 1947, Dale married his first wife, Doris May Wray in Marysville, Kansas. After Doris’s death, Dale was fortunate to meet and then marry Patricia Mumme of Burlington, Iowa on Dec. 5, 2017, at Divine Mercy Parish of West Burlington.
Graduating early from Clarks High school, Clarks, Neb., and then attending and graduating from University of Nebraska, Lincoln Campus (yes, Dale was a Corn Husker to the bone). His first job in his chosen profession for the City of Sioux City, where he became Assistant City Engineer after passing both the Municipal Engineer License and Professional Land Surveyor License in June of 1952, returning in 1964 to pass the more comprehensive Civil Engineering Exam and founding Eschliman Engineering.
While living in Boone, he served as Co-President of Mariners, a married couples group within the Presbyterian Church, where he also served on the Church Board for decades. Dale also served as Cub Scout Pack Leader for Bryant Elementary School, and Webelos Den Leader. Later serving at local and state levels with Son’s of the American Revolution. He was a Life member of the Boone, Kiwanis Club. He had also been a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers. Dale was also a Life member of His real passion, the Society of Land Surveyors of Iowa, serving as a professional mentor to many young interns.
Dale was proceeded in death by his parents, his first wife Doris May, and his youngest son, Kris.
His survivors include his wife Patricia Mumme of Burlington; His oldest son, Kirk D. Eschliman and his wife Leah of Waterloo; His Grandson, Robert D. Eschliman with his wife Sharla and their children of Pella; His Granddaughter Mystique Means and husband Kevin and their children of Boone, Iowa; Kris’s two sons, Dr. Anthony Charles Eschliman and his wife Amy and their children; and Dustin Jeremy Eschliman and his wife Alma and the children.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 1, 2025, at Schroeder-Stark-Welin Funeral Home in Boone. Visitation will be prior to the service from 10 to 11 a.m. Interment will be at Linwood Park Cemetery in Boone following the funeral service.
