Rebecca L. Hubbard, 69, of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, formerly of Council Bluffs and Burlington, Iowa, died Saturday, September 24, 2022, at the Kansas City Hospice House, Kansas City, Missouri.

Born December 4, 1952, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Eugene Sumner and Mary Evelyn (Peavler) Hubbard.

She was a 1971 graduate of Burlington Community High School, 1975 graduate of the University of Iowa, and earned her Masters's Degree in Music Education from the University of Nebraska ~ Omaha. In 1976, Rebecca was selected by audition for the 32-voice chorus which performed in the Haydnfest and Symposium at Eisenstadt, Austria. The program was devoted to the study and performance of Franz Joseph Haydn. Rehearsals, classes, and performances were held in the Esterhazy Palace where Haydn worked and lived much of his life as a composer. Additional performances of specific choral works and masses were held in the churches for which Haydn composed those works and in which the original performances took place. In 1996, Rebecca returned to the Haydnfest and Symposium to sing in the chorus again.

Rebecca taught music education from 1975-1977 in Wells, Minnesota, and from 1977-2008 in Council Bluffs. In 2014, Rebecca moved to Lee’s Summit, Mo. to begin her position with John Knox Village as Performing Arts Specialist. Rebecca also began as Choir Director for Village Church in 2015.

Her life-long love of music included teaching, vocal, instrumental, directing choirs and handbells, and planning next concerts and performances.

Rebecca was preceded in death by her parents, her “bonus” mom, and her grandparents. She leaves behind generations of students, friends, and family who will miss her greatly.
