Joyce Elaine Hedges, 87, of West Burlington died Wednesday, March 6, 2024, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House.
Born Nov. 20, 1936 in Lincoln, Neb., she was the daughter of John and Molly Fischer Spealman.
Joyce graduated from Lincoln High School and attended University of Nebraska.
On March 17, 1963 she married Jon William Hedges in Lincoln, Neb..
Joyce was a nurse prior to working for Churchill Trucklines for 30 years, retiring April 1994. She then worked at the YMCA after-school program. She attended Zion United Church of Christ. She was past president of the Burlington American Business Women’s Association, a member of the Blackmar Chapter 306 of Order of Eastern Star. Joyce loved to clean. She loved her cats and all animals, the outdoors and gardening and dancing.
Survivors include her spouse of 61 years, Jon Sr. of West Burlington; her children Todd Hedges of West Burlington, Jon (Darcy) Hedges Jr of Burlington, Jeff (Jennifer) Hedges of Council Bluffs, Molly (Carl Bader) Lowe of Kuna, Idaho; twelve grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and one sister.
The funeral service for Joyce will be 12 p.m., Tuesday, March 12 at Lunning Chapel with Reverend Carolyn Blair officiating. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
A memorial has been established for the Des Moines County Humane Society.
