Joan Elizabeth Pflum, 87, of Burlington, died March 22, 2023, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House.

Born December 21, 1935, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Carl Francis and Avis Pearl Chittenden Johnson.

She was a 1953 graduate of Burlington High School.

She married Curtis Edward Pflum on Sept. 9, 1956, in Burlington.

She enjoyed watching all sports, especially when her children or grandchildren were involved. She loved football and was a fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes. She enjoyed decorating her home for the seasons. She was a fabulous cook and loved to go on car rides, see the mountains, and enjoyed playing cards.

She was a lifelong member of St. Luke United Church of Christ where she served on the church council, was active in women’s fellowship, and taught Sunday school.

Survivors include her husband of 66 years; four sons, Kyle (Heidi) Pflum of Blue Grass, Iowa, Randy (Susan) Pflum of Burlington, Rick (Joyce) Pflum of Lakeville, Minnesota, and Marc Pflum of Burlington; six grandchildren, Spencer (Mallory) Pflum, Tyler Pflum, Brian Pflum, Devin Pflum, Brittney (Erik) Sonstegard and Brennen (Katrina) Ludwig; six great-grandchildren, Brooks Pflum, Baylor Pflum, Briggs Pflum, Riley Sonstegard, Hartley Ludwig and Brooklyn Ludwig; one brother Richard Johnson of Carthage, Ill. and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

The memorial funeral service for Mrs. Pflum will be 1:30 p.m. Monday, March 27 at St. Luke United Church of Christ. Pastor Peggy Stott will officiate. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the funeral service.

Memorials are suggested to St. Luke United Church of Christ and the Shriners Hospitals for Children.

According to her wishes, cremation has been entrusted to the care of Lunning Chapel.
