Edward J. Box, 92, of Burlington, died Monday, September 8, 2025, at his home in Burlington.

Born October 2, 1932, in Salem, Iowa, he was the son of Lawrence and Agnes Holtkamp Box. On June 13, 1959, he married Sally Rae Lewis in Burlington.

He was a 1950 graduate of St. John's High School of Houghton, IA.  He went on to serve his country with the United States Army.  Upon the completion of his service he later worked for over 40 years with Carl A. Nelson as a carpenter.

Ed was a member of SS. John and Paul Catholic Church. He was a very talented woodworker and had many pieces of his work showcased around his home.  Ed loved relaxing and playing golf with his wife Sally.  He had a great sense of humor and loved making his grandchildren and great grandchildren laugh - Ed loved his family deeply.  He will be missed tremendously.

Survivors include son, Mark (Susan) Box of Fort Collins, CO, daughter, Melinda (Glenn) Spiker of Burlington, IA, daughter-in-law, Marilyn M. Box of Burlington, IA, son-in-law, Joel Garrett of Burlington, IA, brother, Norbert (Karen) Box of West Point, IA, sister, Marcella Holtkamp of West Point, IA, sister, Eileen (David) Pranger of West Point, IA, stepsister-in-law, Patricia Friedman of Burlington, IA; 18 grandkids; 33 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, son, Michael Box, daughter, Michele Garrett, brother, Adrian Box and sister, Dorothy Holtkamp.

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory.

The family will receive guests for visitation will be from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM on Friday, September 19, 2025 at Prugh Funeral Service, 3940 Division Street.

The Memorial Mass of the Resurrection for Ed will be 10:00 am Saturday, September 20, 2025, at Divine Mercy Parish-St. John the Baptist Catholic Church with Fr. Jake Greiner as the Celebrant. Military honors will be rendered.  A time of food and fellowship will be held in the St. John the Baptist Catholic Church's Fellowship Hall following the Mass.

Memorials have been established for Burlington Notre Dame, Inc. and St. Vincent DePaul Society
