Virginia B. Chesnut, 94, of Burlington, died Thursday, Dec. 7, 2023, at Oakview Nursing and Rehab Center in Burlington.
Born Aug. 27, 1929, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Irwin and Annadeine (Whaley) Munger and her biological father George James.
Virginia graduated from Burlington High School. She married Robert L. Chesnut Jr on Aug. 30, 1947, in West Burlington. He died Sept. 25, 2019.
Virginia was a production worker for General Electric for 22 years. She was a member of Denmark Congregational United Church of Christ. She was a member of Good Hope Rebecca Lodge #267 and the Gold Wing Touring Association. Virginia and Robert enjoyed traveling together, both in the US and Internationally. She liked to take care of her flowers and canning and freezing produce from her garden. Virginia loved to make her homemade pies and noodles for her family to enjoy.
Survivors include three daughters Barbara (Stephen) Hartweg of Elvaston, Ill., Linda (Steven) Casady of Franklin, Wis., and Teresa Chesnut of Lake Worth Beach, Fla.; two sons Robert L. (Jean) Chesnut III and Wayne (Jodi) Chesnut both of Wever; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert, her parents, and daughter Brenda Chesnut.
The funeral for Virginia will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2023, at Lunning Chapel with Pastor Chad Savage officiating. Private family graveside will follow in Beebe Cemetery rural Wever. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the start of the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established for PAWS of Ft. Madison and Adopt A Pal of Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
