Gail L. Rose died Thursday, July 13, 2023.

Born Jan. 7, 1950, in Burlington, he was the son of Donald Dwayne and Leota Fay Seitz Rose.

Gail worked in the parts department for Hockett Toyota, later for H & R Block and finally retired in 1998 after 20 years of serving as a dispatcher with the Burlington Police Department.

He was a relentless Chicago Cubs, Chicago Bears and Iowa Hawkeyes fan, and an avid outdoorsman. He loved fishing and spent many hours making his own lures, sinkers and tackle. He enjoyed woodworking, and could build anything.

Gail spent many years coaching little league in Oquawka, Ill. and loved to run into and visit his former players. He has a beautiful voice and was an amazing singer and guitar player.

Above all else, he adored his children and grandchildren and cherished the time he spent with them.

He will be greatly missed by his two children; Michael (Kelsie) Rose of Harglin, Texas and Cassandra “Cassie” (Austin) Belknap of Burlington; his four grandchildren, X’Zayvian “Boogie” Nicholson, Kaprie Thomas, Timber Rose and Pearl Rose; his siblings, Dennis (Carol) Rose of Burlington and Susan (Kevin) Sumpter of Oquawka, Ill., sister-in-law Marilyn Rose and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Larry Rose Sr.

The funeral service for Gail will be at 2 p.m. Monday, July 17 at Lunning Chapel. Mr. Ned Fry will officiate. Burial will follow at Aspen Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the funeral service.

A memorial has been established for the family.
