John M. Klindt, 79, of Hastings, Neb., passed away on July 1, 2026, of IBM, a progressive muscle disease.
Per John's wishes, no services will be held. Cremation took place. DeWitt Funeral Home and Cremation Services are assisting his family with arrangements.
John was born on Sept. 24, 1946, in Powell, Wyo., to James M. Klindt and Alice V. (Sheets) Klindt. He spent his childhood in Wyoming, where he developed a deep appreciation for the outdoors, hard work, and the western way of life.
During summers, his great-uncle, John Henry Klindt, formally of Mediapolis, would come to visit his brother Fred and sister-in-law Effie Klindt and their families, Jim and Alice Klindt and family, and Alan and Blanche Klindt and their two children, Fritz and Susan, and John H. and Fred's sister Birdie (Klindt) L.E. Petersen.
John M. worked as a ranch laborer, dude wrangler, farrier, and wilderness guard before embarking on a distinguished 35-year career as a research scientist with a masters degree and Ph.D.
He was preceded in death by an infant sister, his parents and grandparents, and cousin Fritz Klindt.
He is survived by his wife, Shelly; son, Alexander; his sister, Jeri Klindt Kinzel and his brother, Scott Klindt and Iowa relatives, Cosette Smith, Jute Klindt, Loretta (Luth) Cover, and her sister Karen, and other family members and friends.
