Harvey Johnson, 91, of Burlington, died Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2025, at the Klein Center in West Burlington.

Born Dec. 1, 1933, in Fort Madison, he was the son of Leonard N. and Bernice Mansheim Johnson. On April 4, 1959, he married Carolyn Kay Cooper in St. Joseph Catholic Church in Fort Madison.

Harvey grew up attending a one room school house up to the 8th grade. He was a 1951 graduate of Saint Joseph High School in Fort Madison and then graduated from Iowa State University in 1953, where he received his Associate's Degree in Farm Operation. Harvey proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955.

Harvey worked for the United States Post Office for 38 years and retired in 1992, he also managed the Postal Credit Union for 18 years. 

He was a member of SS. Mary and Patrick Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus council #568 and he served as a Black Knight, and Saint Vincent de Paul. He enjoyed attending his children's and grandchildren's music and sporting events when they were young, playing cards with friends and family, and spending time at the farm.

Survivors include wife, Carolyn Kay Johnson of Burlington, son, Bryan C. Johnson of Burlington, three daughters, Karen Gotch of Arlington, TX, Ellen (Robert) Humiston of Burlington, Janet (Jon) Burbridge of Robins, IA; daughter-in-law, Kim Rector (Joe) of West Burlington, nine grandchildren, Sonya Gotch, Renata Gotch & Cerise (Jalon) Tyler, Kayla (Sam) Strawhacker, Alisha (Tony) LoCurto, Austin (Gina) Burbridge, Rachel Burbridge, Taylor (Sean) Atwater, Lindsay (Jordan) Huisman, eight great-grandchildren, Cian, Braysen, Emrey & Cole Atwater, Bennett & Lucy Strawhacker, Weston Tyler and River Huisman; three brothers, Paul (Ginny) Johnson of Venice, FL, Leonard (Sharon) Johnson of Biggsville, IL, Donn Johnson (Rhonda) of Springhill, FL; sister, Carol (Mickey) Mansukhani of Laguna Niguel, CA; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Mark, two brothers, Dale and Lee Johnson, grandson, Jasper Gotch, and sister, Shirley Holloman.

Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 17, 2025, at Divine Mercy Parish-SS. Mary and Patrick Catholic Church, West Burlington.

In memory of Harvey, please wear casual attire or your favorite sports team to honor his love for sports.

The Memorial Mass of the Resurrection for Harvey will be Monday, Feb. 17, 2025, 11 a.m. at Divine Mercy Parish-SS. Mary and Patrick Catholic Church, West Burlington with Fr. Greiner as the Celebrant. Full military honors will be rendered by the Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery at a later date. A time of food and fellowship will be held at the SS. Mary and Patrick Church Hall following the memorial service.

Memorials have been established for St. Vincent DePaul food pantry and Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice.
